The TicSalut Foundation (TICSALUT) was created in 2006 by the Generalitat (Autonomous Government of Catalonia), and its main specific objectives are: strategic orientation for decision-making on ICT in the health area; to offer technical support to the Administration, users and providers of technological solutions; introduce the newest technological applications in the health area; disseminate and implement the standards that allow interoperability between all systems.

TicSalut sponsors innovative IT-health pilot projects and applied research for participative and eHealthactivities, represents the Health Ministry in European healthcare networks and large-scale pilot deployments, fosters project alliances between health service suppliers and technical experts, and defines standards policy adoption in Catalonia as well as represents the region at European and international standards bodies.

TicSalut hosts the Interoperability & Standards Office for the Catalan healthcare sector and is responsible to support the region on deploying eHealth services based on international standards to ensure interoperability, and to certify systems & devices for the interoperability for the eHealth infrastructure defined in Catalonia.

Currently TicSalut monitors in Catalonia 112 telemedicine projects (in service or being piloted at other organisations in the territory), 20 teleassistance projects, and deploys its own pilots (in Renewing Health Telemonitorisation of COPD patients with biometric sensors and video-conferencing), and epSOS (EHR and ePrescription cross-border interoperability).
